An idea born from the concept of a loop — both an abstract schema and a literal composition technique for moving pictures.

Inheritance is cyclical. I think of my grandpa teaching me to wash rice 3 times before cooking. I am a mirror of my mother as the youngest children to our mothers. My succession is all of the sacrifice, the joy, the illness, the responsibility of every generation before me. With each recollection and practice, heritage and ritual slowly wash into something new. It is my duty to pull at remembrance and also accept the push of erasure. Each cycle is both a repeat and a deviation from past rituals. Both truths must be held at once. I am the Chinese Americana. I am the traditional domestic wife and the dutiful daughter and the liberated 21st century woman. The preservation and destruction of my bloodline. Over and over again.
